Should you use Strong Basecoat or Rubber Basecoat?
Rubber Basecoat is a basecoat that is flexible and ideal for fragile and soft nails. It can also be used to extend your nails.
If you are interested in trying Rubber Basecoat, you can see the guide "How to use Rubber Basecoat"
-
Rubber Basecoat is a flexible basecoat for fragile, thin nails that need a little extra and can extend the nail up to 1 cm.
Strong Basecoat is for those with regular and normal nails.
1. Start by washing your hands
Start by washing your hands, without soap. Soap often contains nourishing oils, and this is not something we want near our Molly Lac manicure. Oils on the nail plate reduce durability and are harder to remove, which we want to avoid.
2. Preparing the nails:
-
File your nails into the desired shape with the koala nail file and lightly buff the top of the nail. It’s important that the entire surface of the nail plate is matte.
-
Then file a grid with your coarse file. Do this with a very light hand and a coarse file. Place the file at the cuticle and pull outward. You should only lightly scratch the surface of the nail plate, from top to bottom, and from the sides toward the center, until you have created a grid. Do this only once in each spot. Never go back and forth multiple times in the same place. Be careful.
-
Remove dust from all nails with a dust brush.
-
Moisten your dust brush with isopropyl alcohol or use your nail wipes. Clean the nails thoroughly to make sure all dust is gone from the nail plate – remember the underside of your nails’ free edge.
-
Apply "Nail Prep" to pinky to index finger, 4 nails, and let it dry. The thumb is always done separately. Wipe the brush extremely well on the bottle and use a very small amount. If you use too much, you get the opposite effect – namely, worse durability. Apply from the cuticle outward. Never touch the same spot twice. This product air dries.
IMPORTANT: It is very important that you do not touch your nails again until you are completely finished, as you will otherwise transfer oil from your fingers and reduce durability.
3. Applying Strong Basecoat:
-
Apply basecoat to the entire nail plate and cure it in your UV/LED lamp for 30 seconds. Remember to seal the tip and avoid touching the skin. Remember thin layers. If you get it on the skin, remove it before curing with a thin brush dipped in isopropyl alcohol.
-
If you want to reinforce your nail plate a bit, you can now apply another layer of basecoat. Cure for 30 seconds. You can apply as many thin layers of basecoat as you wish.
Application of Rubber Base for reinforcement is done the same way, but the curing time is 60 seconds.
4. Applying color:
-
Apply the first layer with your preferred color from Molly Lac. Gel polish should always be applied in thin layers and always cured for the full time between each layer. Colors from Molly Lac cure in 60 seconds unless otherwise stated.
-
Apply a second layer of Molly Lac gel polish. Cure for 60 seconds. You can easily apply more layers if you wish.
Note: All Molly Lac colors must be cured for 60 seconds unless otherwise stated. This does not apply, for example, to Ultimate Black or Hypnotize White. These cure for 120 seconds.
Camilla’s Tip: While you are doing your prep, you can place your polish upside down. When you are ready to use it, roll it between your hands to mix the pigments. We do not shake gel polish. ;)
5. Finish with topcoat:
-
Finish your manicure with Doctor Topcoat and cure it for 60 seconds.
-
Wait until your mani has cooled, after about 1 minute, and then wipe thoroughly – regardless of No Wipe, this step should always be done to ensure you don’t have a sticky layer anywhere.
-
Now your nails are finished and you are ready to shine for several weeks. When you need to remove Molly Lac, you can follow this removal guide for Molly Lac.

-
As mentioned earlier, it’s important to have a good and thorough hand wash before you start. This helps ensure your nails are degreased and any dirt and oil are removed. The result will be better and your gel polish will last longer.
-
However, remember not to wash your hands after you have filed the top of the nail. Rather, remove filing dust with a soft brush or a wipe with nail polish remover.
-
IMPORTANT: It is super important that you seal the edge of your nail thoroughly. Your polish will last 100 times better with this little trick.
Enjoy!
